First trout of the year!!

We headed down to woodens this afternoon for some more fishing. We went up the road but we ran into another fisherman so we came back down to the top of the lower lake. Me and Rob were trying everything to turn up a trout. Finally he was ready to move on as I was tying on a green goober. I let the line out and just started retrieving when it hit. Green goober seems to be the fly for this river, works almost every time........

Opening Day!!

The fishing season opened today so of course we had to go out. Barry had decided to drag us out early, despite the cold. So me and Rob are sitting there waiting and waiting. After 20 min we decide to call him. He was sitting at home relaxing.... waiting for us to call.... bastard. So we finally get out to our spot and we find some nice warm water waiting for us. As you can see the ice was long gone.....

So we jumped in and tried to stay as shallow as possible to keep warm. Then the fun began. When we stripped the line back in the water was freezing onto the rod guides. It would keep building up until it froze solid and we couldn't cast. We had to stop every couple casts to break the ice off. Rob's fly froze solid too, it was a block of ice.
We eventually gave up and left for a coffee. On the drive home the temperature went from -3 (the day had started at -10) to 1 in 5 min on the highway. We decided to stop in enfield and try the nine mile river. This was where Barry decided to go swimming. He started by disassembling his rod and reel in the middle of the river, just as an excuse. Once he had lost enough parts he dunked one side up to the shoulder to get them back. I dont think we have ever gone near water when he hasnt found an excuse to get wet. The only time I've seen him come home dry was last spring when he threw Joanne in instead. At least he doesnt scream as much as she did.......
